Important Works from Peter Harrington
One of Ansel Adams' Sierra Nevada photographs.
Item 12 is a first edition, first printing of Ansel Adams' Sierra Nevada. The John Muir Trail. This collection of photographs was published in 1938, by which time Adams' reputation was already well established. This was part of a signed, limited edition, which was additionally inscribed by Adams in 1941. £6,000 (US $9,573).
Item 148 includes two first edition, first impressions from children's author Beatrix Potter. One is The Tailor of Gloucester, published in 1902, the other Peter Rabbit's Almanac for 1929. Both contain inscriptions to Ms. Potter's friend Marian Perry. Additionally, there is a letter from Ms. Potter to Perry, written on July 3, 1939, just before the outbreak of the Second World War. She writes to her friend in America about various items of personal interest, but, describing Hitler as "that homicidal monster," states, "There is no doubt he intends to take Dantzig. Whether his cleverness and Mr Chamberlain's 'caution' will enable the Poles to be snuffed out without a general conflagration remains to be seen." It did not. £15,000 (US $23,934).
