Here is another friend's tale. By Jed Kiley, it is Hemingway; an Old Friend Remembers. This book recalls times Hemingway spent in the Florida Keys. Item 121, published in 1965. $20.

Items 184 through 191 are copies of primarily Florida sheet music. These songs are mostly forgotten, but perhaps someone with sufficient state pride would like to resurrect them. The dates range from 1891 to 1938, and some of the titles are The Tourist in Florida; It's Summer Time in Winter Time Down on Biscayne Bay; You'll Always Come Back to Palm Beach; Dreams of Fulford By-the-sea; Way Down on Tampa Bay, and A Night in Florida on the Banks of the Tallahassee. Prices range from $15-$55.

Item 7 is Charles Arnade's The Avero Story: an Early Saint Augustine Family with Many Daughters and Many Houses. Evidently they must have had to keep all of those daughters separated. This is a reprint of a 1961 article from the Florida Historical Quarterly. $10.

For those looking for a contemporary account of Reconstruction in Florida, there is Carpetbag Rule in Florida. The Inside Workings of the Reconstruction of Civil Government in Florida After the Close of the Civil War. This was written by John Wallace and published in 1888. Item 210. $250.

Here is a scary Florida book if ever there was one: One Hundred Years of Dentistry in Florida by Robert Thoburn. Published in 1983, it makes you wonder what Floridians did about their teeth before 1883. This book was published by the Florida Dental Education Foundation, and follows the equally fascinating book from 25 years earlier, 75 Years of Dentistry in Florida. Item 203. $35.

Speaking of horror shows, how could we close without something about the Florida election of 2000? Actually, this is more than just a book, but a collection of 21 articles by legal scholars on the controversial election. It comes with an introduction by Governor Reuben Askew, once a presidential aspirant himself. I don't know if I'm ready to tackle this book just yet, but put it away and in time it could become a collectible piece of Americana. Item 126. $65.

King and Queen Books is operated by Lana Servies. She and husband James Servies are authors of the four-volume set A Bibliography of Florida: 1507-1915. It is a monumental bibliography of Florida and a must for any serious collector of that state and territory. The printing was limited to 550 copies and they have only a few sets remaining. Priced at $100 per volume.
