Animal Locomotion. Plate 626, author's edition. By Eadweard Muybridge

Monika Schiavo, Director of Marketing at Quinns Auction in Falls Church, Virginia recently confirmed that Dale Sorenson who developed Waverly Auctions and sold the firm to Quinn’s in 2004 and remained involved through 2009 has, after tasting retirement and repenting the experience, returned to Quinn’s to make hay while the sun shines.  Dale, at 74, has many more books to find.

“I’m of the old school.  I love to find the material and see that it sells.  It gives me a reason to be up and out every morning.”  Ms. Schiavo, speaking for Quinn’s said “Dale has been a tremendous mentor to everyone at Waverly and his energy, enthusiasm and optimism will keep us going."

Over the next decade a steady flow of collectibles are expected to pass through the rooms.  Dale’s half a century of experience will be invaluable.

Evidence of his involvement will be on display June 25th in a book sale Quinn’s will be conducting.  The high spot will be a copy of the author’s edition of Eadweard Muybridge’s Animal Locomotion:  An Electro-Photographic Investigation of Consecutive Phases of Muscular Actions.  “This copy lacks one plate and is foxed in places.  For that reason it will be sold without reserve and is expected to attract broad interest.”

Chris Bready who closed his company, Baltimore Book Auction, earlier this year brought me up to date by email on Dale’s return to Quinn’s.  In trying to reach Chris by phone I was unable.  It’s not surprising.  When we last spoke in February he was preparing for a busy year on the links and said he’d be out of touch for a while.
