Lot Note

Burden, 237, state 1 CATALOGUE NOTE Landmark map of Canada with the English possessions south to New York City, where a church can be seen, "clearly an indication of the Dutch presence in the region and [it] must be construed as the first delineation of present day New York City on a map" (Burden). The delineation of Canada was Champlain's last map of the region, and incorporates all the new information he had accumulated before his return to France in 1629 and, as such, is a fitting testament to the tireless endeavours of the "Father of New France".
