Welcome to Frenchboro Books. Please search or browse our inventory of hard to find, out of print, used, and rare books as well as manuscripts and ephemera. If you can't find what you like please fill out our off-line search form and we will search our off-line inventory, other bookstores and book search services for you. We focus on theology, the history of religions, western religious traditions, American intellectual history as well as Maine literature and local history. Our material is mainly 19th century with some collections of earlier material and a selection of 20th century printings.
We are located on a remote island (about 2,500 acres) off the Downeast Coast of Maine, one of 14 islands in Maine still maintaining a year round community. We belong to an even smaller sub-group, for most of our men are fishermen and we have a very small number of "summer people from away." Seventy five year round residents, 22 children under twelve (for the moment!), 14 in the one room school; 3 miles of roads; the car ferry travels here 3 times a week; a sight-seeing/passenger ferry in the summer; a great harbor, a quintessential picturesque New England fishing village, a bed and breakfast, a summer-time restaurant on the lobster wharf, incredible hikes and vistas, and 20,000 books in an adaptation of a 1755 house.
We specialize in helping select academic libraries deaccession stock and gift collections.

US shipping via Priority Mail: $6.50 for the first book, additional books by weight and region; books 3 lbs and over are priced by weight and region. Media mail, $3.75 for the first book, $1.50 for each additional book. When you contact us in advance, we will price your order by actual weight. International shipping at cost plus $2 for handling. Over sized volumes and multiple volume sets at cost plus $2 for handling.
We cannot guarantee the time of delivery, and shipments to some international destinations cannot be guaranteed. When in doubt, please confirm our ability to guarantee particular international shipments.
