| About Us |
I deal in books and manuscripts from the 15th century through the present date; my specialties include the Spanish Civil War, lesbian and gay literature, modern literature in English, fable literature, Spanish literature, Latin American literature, leftist poetry.
Unlike a few of my colleagues, I feel there is no honor in selling a book for the highest possible, or even the highest recorded, price. Indeed, I prefer my price for any given book in any given condition to be the lowest on Abebooks.com or any other website or printed catalogue. I prefer the books themselves to be in unusually nice condition, taking into account the age, rarity, and fragility of the book in question. As it happens, I have very few titles on the internet -- because I bought my first computer five years ago (after almost 25 years as an antiquarian bookseller), because I won't hesitate to write a long informative description if a particular book or manuscript (regardless of its price) requires or deserves one, because my partner and I bought a 300-year-old second home in Spain at about the time I bought the computer (as a kind of balance, perhaps), and because I'm more than a little lazy. Right now I have perhaps 3300 books and manuscripts on-line, representing around 35% of my stock. Nevertheless, my copy is often the finest on the net, or the only one in a jacket, or the only one signed, or the only one inscribed, or the only copy, period.
